Application Health Review

A twelve-to-fifteen-day sitting over one production application: interviews, observation of alerting, ninety days of incident records, a written health brief, and a readout.

Format
Assessment with written brief and readout
Price basis
Quoted; from AUD 4,800
Span
12–15 working days
Where
Brisbane on-site, or remote across Australia

Who it is for

The review is for the person who still owns on-call for a production application, and for the manager who has to explain last quarter’s pages without another vendor diagram. Typical sitters are operations leads, engineering managers, and the two or three operators who actually take the night phone. We work with organisations running live applications in Australia; we do not require a particular monitoring vendor.

The result

You receive a written health brief covering what the current signals actually show, which recent incidents the pages would have missed, which pages wake people for conditions that never reached a customer, and a practical order of work. The readout is a conversation through that document, not a performance.

Scope

One production application, or a tightly related pair that share on-call and incident records. Multiple unrelated applications are separate reviews.

Included

  • A briefing call to name the application, environments, and the people we will sit with
  • Interviews with the on-call owners and, where they exist, the duty manager
  • Observation of alerting during ordinary hours, including silences and hand-offs
  • Close reading of approximately ninety days of incident records and page history
  • A written health brief
  • A readout session, on Eagle Street or remote

Excluded

We do not install monitoring products. We do not rewrite alert rules in your system of record. We do not take the pager during or after the review. We do not produce a market comparison of vendors.

Provider

Rowan Hale leads the review. Mei-Ling Hart reads the incident records. Callum Brennan sits in the room when the sitting is on-site in Brisbane.

Process

Briefing, then a week of observation and interviews, then analysis, then the document and readout. Detail lives on the method page.

Duration and place

Twelve to fifteen working days is the usual span for a single application. Brisbane on-site is preferred when the operations room is in the city. Remote sittings cover the rest of Australia and follow AEST hours unless we agree otherwise.

Preparation

Please set aside ninety days of incident records, access to alert history for the same window, and two hours with the person who owns on-call. A monitoring architecture diagram is optional and often less useful than the tickets.

Constraints

We do not require you to change vendors. If records are legally restricted, we work from the extracts you are allowed to share. If a sitting collides with a severity-one incident, we pause and re-date the remaining days.

Price

From AUD 4,800 for a single application of ordinary scope. The figure moves with extra environments, extra applications, and whether we travel beyond Brisbane. See rates and ask for a written estimate.

Next step

Write to the desk with the application name and one recent incident. We reply within two working days and usually date a review three to five weeks out.
