Case Chronicles & Client Evidence

Client Stories & Analytical Case Chronicles

Every application presents unique telemetry complexities and cohort behavior. Here is how product teams apply our cohort performance reporting to solve real retention and data hygiene challenges.

The value of an analytics advisory is measured by the clarity of its diagnostic findings and the permanence of its engineering artifacts. Below are detailed chronicles of past advisory engagements, alongside direct observations from product and technology executives.

Extended Case Study 1: Resolving Day-7 Drop-Off in a Pan-Asian Subscription Fitness App

Client Context: A Bangkok-based consumer mobile app with 120,000 monthly active users (MAU) operating on iOS and Android.
The Core Problem: The growth team had expanded paid acquisition on TikTok and Apple Search Ads, yet 30-day subscriber conversion remained stagnant. Top-line install metrics looked healthy, but the Day-7 cohort retention curve showed an anomalous 62% decline.

The Diagnostic Process

Monitor PulsePoint was commissioned for a 10-day Cohort Retention & Churn Audit. We ingested 14 months of raw session telemetry from the client’s Snowflake warehouse:

  1. Cohort Segmentation by Onboarding Completion: We isolated cohorts who completed the initial physical goal calibration against those who skipped it.
  2. Behavioral Event Sequencing: We mapped user events leading up to the Day-3 and Day-5 touchpoints.
  3. The Finding: Over 70% of paid ad-network users were skipping the 4-step goal survey because the skip button was prominent. Users who skipped the survey experienced a Day-7 retention rate of only 11.4%, compared to 36.8% for users who completed the survey, because the app’s home feed lacked personalized workout recommendations without survey inputs.
Onboarding Survey Completed: D1: 52.4% | D7: 36.8% | D30: 24.1%
Onboarding Survey Skipped: D1: 38.1% | D7: 11.4% | D30: 4.2%

The Engineering & Product Intervention

Armed with our reproducible SQL queries and visual cliff diagrams, the product team made the survey non-skippable while shortening it to 3 focused questions.

Observed Result: Within 6 weeks of shipping build v4.4.0, the client’s overall Day-30 retention across all paid cohorts improved by 4.3 percentage points, generating significant incremental annual subscription renewals.

Extended Case Study 2: Telemetry Schema Remediation for a Regional E-Commerce Marketplace

Client Context: A multi-vendor mobile shopping app operating in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand with 350,000 MAU.
The Core Problem: Three separate front-end engineering teams were maintaining the iOS, Android, and Web clients. Analytical dashboards in BigQuery frequently produced conflicting cart checkout counts, leading to disputes between marketing and finance over cohort acquisition costs.

The Diagnostic Process

Monitor PulsePoint conducted a 5-day Event Telemetry & Schema Diagnostics audit:

  1. Codebase Inspection: We reviewed client tracking dispatch wrappers across Swift, Kotlin, and React web codebases.
  2. Schema Drift Identification: We uncovered that the Android squad was emitting checkout_completed with order_total_cents as an Integer, while the iOS squad was emitting checkout_success with total_amount as a Floating-point string. Furthermore, currency conversion codes were missing from 18% of web session payloads.
  3. The Deliverable: We authored a comprehensive JSON Schema data contract and automated CI/CD schema verification linter for the engineering team.

Outcome: Eliminated tracking discrepancy errors in the client’s reporting data pipeline, reducing weekly data engineering triage overhead from 12 hours to less than 1 hour per sprint.

Practitioner Testimonials & Feedback

EDTECH PLATFORM • 95k MAU • SINGAPORE

"The cohort matrices delivered by Monitor PulsePoint gave our engineering leads an indisputable view of our learner drop-off points. Instead of arguing over conflicting dashboard charts, we now have a shared SQL baseline that our data team maintains with confidence."

FINANCIAL SERVICES • 180k MAU • BANGKOK

"Working through the historical cohort audit required significant data preparation on our end to sanitize customer records for compliance, which pushed our initial kick-off back by three days. However, the resulting dossier clearly isolated our KYC drop-off cliff and saved us from making the wrong onboarding redesign."

CASUAL GAMING • 520k MAU • TOKYO / REMOTE

"Their major release delta analysis gave our production team precise statistical confidence that version 2.1 did not degrade Day-14 retention, even though early app store star ratings fluctuated due to UI changes. The empirical cohort numbers kept our roadmap on track."
